Homemade clay Christmas ornaments

Today's advent activity was make salt dough ornaments. Now, we all know that salt dough and I have a bad histor. With the exception of the Ganeshas which were quite beautiful, all the salt dough creations that we have made previously have gotten soggy with time.

But the homemade air dry clay recipe that I used to make the Diwali Diyas dried beautifully and I still have the Diyas stored in the cupboard. I used them as oil lamps for Karthigai and they were still beautiful

So instead of making salt dough ornaments, we made air dry clay ornaments.

Here is the recipe for air dry clay.

1 cup of corn flour
1/2 cup of baking soda
1/2 cup of water.

Mix and cook over low heat until it comes together (5 minutes). ket cool until it is comfortable to the touch and knead. For fun, we added a nice load of glitter

We spent a nice half an hour with the ornaments. At first we used the cookie cutters and playdough cutters. Sophia made Christmas food

Then we decided to free form it

Anjali made this frog, to paint another day
This is my snowman
Some cookie cutter ornaments, made by all of us
The ever innovative Sophia decided to cover a pebble with clay and use that as an ornament.
