Chapter books for the five year old

We have just finished the BFG. While Sophia complains that the books dont have pictures, Anjali is absolutely fascinated by chapter books and we are beginning Charlie and the chocolate factory.

ofcourse, given the books we have read, we have only read 4 chapter books so far - two faraway tree and two Roald Dahl books. The Roald Dahl books were the most enjoyed, and I believe that Anjali enjyos the humor in the dialogues which is often hard to get in picture books.

We still have a long list of Roald Dahl books to go through - Matilda, james etc, but are there any other alternative authors? I had a very limtied reading list as a child -Enid Blyton, nancy drew and thats that and I didnt start reading chapter books till almost 8 years old.

she is still somewhat young for the descriptions of Harry potter and percy Jackson, though I have somewhat narrated the stories to her

I would welcome suggestions, as I enjoy reading these chapter books to the children and they now make an integral part of our bedtime routine - preferably books with occassional pictures to satisfy Sophia and spark her imagination.
